Title: Swisher admits losses and mistakes
Post by: Johnny Appleseed on February 20, 2008, 11:46:04 AM
Sunday's Press (2/17) has a good article by Litke where Swisher states they had a loss last year on the Winter Arts Festival and that the preview party this year lost money.  "I'm always hoping for a lot more, but I'm happy there was an increase." They said she at least wanted to break even as last year's event "finished $4,000-$5000 in the hole."  None of the people who stayed overnight did it via the city's webiste, and the preview party had only 100 people "which is just not cost effective, I'm not sure that we'll be able to do this next year."  It's a lengthy article, worth reading.

Kudos to Litke for asking the questions and getting some answers.

I agree with that, JA.  A story that tells us what is REALLY going on, instead of Ms.Swisher standing before the Council and telling us how great they are doing.  When will they realize that our Chamber did a fantastic job in promoting the entire area including Sheboygan, and pull the plug on this tax-eating committee.

In Tuesday's Press was an article about our tourism department getting a State grant of $22,525 to promote one of their drinking events.

Here is part of the article:

City receives tourism grant

Sippin' on Sheboygan's Shores, which will be held for the second time on March 29 at the Blue Harbor Resort and Conference Center, has been given a $22,525 Wisconsin Department of Tourism Joint Effort Marketing grant to promote the event and traveler spending.

The Sheboygan event, which showcases wine and microbrew tasting, was among several in the state that received Joint Effort Marketing grants.

Why is the State going along with this waste of money?

That's exactly what I would like to know.  That's called grant money but it is actually TAXES, and I resent it.  And for DRINKING???  No, this is wrong. :mad0090:

I could agree with this grant if it was for a family type event, but not for a group of alcoholics. What else would you call them, when they are trying to get people, to come to Sheboygan, just to drink.

That is the million dollar question. Maybe we need to start asking it...

Gosh, she lost us more money. Is that why they cut her a pretty check for $2500 --  cuz SHE IS A FAILURE?? That whole tourism mess is a failure and needs to go back to the Chamber of Commerce.

Interesting point.  Job performance doesn't matter in Sheboygan these days.  Schmoozing and behind-closed door dealings do (sadly).  Some open gov't we've got, eh?  :nope:

Yo-Yo goes to my church.  When we were parking one day, I saw a car with a license plate that said "Yo Graf".  :laugh1: She's actually proud.
