Tourism Argument
Give tourism back to the Chamber of Commerce!April 2010 Update: Tourism, thankfully, has been given back to the Chamber of Commerce. See the Common Council Minutes of April 19, 2010, Page 11, Res. No. 217-09-10.
Concerns
I have, via an open records request, gone thru a significant amount of information regarding our Tourism Dept. After doing so, it is my firm belief that we have a very serious, costly and wasteful situation on our hands further compounded by the fact that the people running this Department are sorely lacking in honesty, credibility and financial responsibility.
We were far better off when Tourism was handled by the Chamber of Commerce. They are dignified, accountable, and conduct themselves with a high level of professionalism, unlike this current department (which I will prove if you will kindly bear with me). The Chamber of Commerce is connected to the business community across the entire county – and has been for a very, very long time. They have established a superb working relationship with local businesses and as such, are far more qualified to handle tourism for both the city and the county.
Adding yet another entity has only served to cost us financially, embarrass the community, confuse the business sector and cause hard feelings and discord.
What this city has done with the creation of this Tourism Dept. is an utter travesty. It is past time we rid ourselves of this burden and go back the means that worked the best. The Chamber of Commerce has the experience, knowledge, background and resources all at its disposal. The system wasn’t broke; now it is, but we can correct it.

Disclaimer: There is absolutely NO involvement with the Chamber of Commerce and these Web Pages. This has all been done of my own volition, my own research, on my own time due to my own concerns, and of my own accord. I have placed a link to their Web site on this home page for visitors to visit it only if they wish to learn a bit more about our local Chamber of Commerce.
